The mayor of Tortona, Federico Chiodi, declared to LaPresse: "The city is shocked by what has happened. We are terribly affected by the death of such a small girl". He clarified that aid had been activated for the family's economic difficulties and that "nothing suggested the presence of other problems, particularly of a psychological nature".
Elements emerge that investigators will need to clarify. The mother had reported the ex-partner, father of the girl, for mistreatment and had sole custody of the child. The couple was being followed by social services. At a recent court hearing, a process for reconciliation between the father and daughter would have been initiated.
