Turin, 22-year-old arrested for riot disturbances: identified by emblem on jacket
A young man of foreign origin was identified by investigators from the Digos and arrested for the disturbances on 17 October during a demonstration against the cost of living crisis. The judge validated the arrest with a signing order requirement.

Identified during the clashes on Saturday 17 October
According to giornalelavoce.it, an apparently minor detail — an emblem embroidered on a jacket — allowed investigators from the Turin Digos to identify a 22-year-old of foreign origin arrested in connection with the disturbances that broke out on Saturday 17 October during a march against the cost of living crisis. The judge for preliminary investigations at the Turin Court of Justice validated the arrest, ordering that the young man present himself to the judicial police.
The demonstration, initially organised as apolitical and non-partisan by citizens through social media, had gathered thousands of people in the Piedmont capital. The march had set off in the afternoon from Piazza Castello with the aim of protesting against rising living costs and fuel prices, joining with students and young people from various collectives.
Tensions along the route
During the march, initial clashes also emerged among the demonstrators themselves. Some organisers had urged younger participants to uncover their faces, whilst others attempted to prevent the march from being overtaken by groups intent on proceeding independently. The situation subsequently escalated in the area around Porta Nuova station, with clashes against law enforcement and damage to public structures.
Tensions then spread to Piazza Castello, Via Po and Piazza Vittorio Veneto, with objects being thrown at officers, who responded with teargas and water cannons. Overall, investigators had identified 60 people for further checks.
Summary of arrests and charges
On the day immediately following the demonstration, authorities reported four arrests — one of an adult and three of minors — who were found in possession of incendiary bottles. Three other minors were charged for possession of firecrackers and a homemade device. Four young people were also photographed in connection with damage to the Feltrinelli bookshop at the station.
The arrest of the 22-year-old is part of this context as one of the first judicial developments related to the disturbances. His identification was made possible by the detail of the emblem on the jacket, a distinctive element that contributed to the investigative reconstruction work.
The judge's decision
Following validation of the arrest, the judge for preliminary investigations established that the young man must present himself to the judicial police according to the terms set out in the precautionary order. No custodial measure in prison was imposed against him. The validation of the arrest and the application of the precautionary measure do not constitute a conviction: criminal responsibility must be determined during the proceedings.
