The victim, a woman, was pulled and harassed at the exit of a commercial premises near the Bus Terminal in piazzale Kennedy. The man had made persistent demands for money from her before taking her mobile phone from her hands. After receiving a detailed description from a witness, patrol officers pursued the offender through the streets of the city centre until his arrest.
The arrested man, a foreign national in possession of a valid residence permit, was taken to the Commissariat offices for routine checks and subsequently transferred to the remand prison on the orders of the Judicial Authority. The arrest forms part of extraordinary territorial control operations carried out in the vicinity of the railway station and Bus Terminal, aimed at preventing and suppressing petty crime offences in high-risk areas of the territory.
