Arrest and escape on bike in the Susa Valley
According to ANSA Cronaca, a young man of foreign origin was sentenced in Turin under summary proceedings and direct trial to four months of imprisonment with a suspended sentence. The charge: deliberately blocking a train at a station in the Susa Valley on 20 October, then attempting to flee by bicycle when police arrived to ask questions.
The young man had stopped the train claiming that a passenger had left behind a small handbag. Upon the officers' arrival, not understanding Italian well and frightened, he attempted to leave by pedalling away. During the attempt to stop him, a police officer fell and was dragged for several metres, sustaining injuries judged to be recoverable within ten days. The defendant was arrested in flagrante delicto for resisting a public official.
During the validation hearing, lawyer Sabrina Militello requested and obtained the release of the young man, assisted by an interpreter, due to the absence of precautionary needs. The sentence was handed down concurrently.
