Murder in Canosa in 2021, two arrests for "lupara bianca"
Bari police have executed a precautionary order against two men accused of the murder of a 41-year-old who went missing in August 2021. The investigation has reconstructed an ambush organised with mafia methods.

According to questure.poliziadistato.it, on 22 October the Tribunal of Bari executed a precautionary order against two individuals for voluntary murder aggravated by premeditation, mafia methods and the use of firearms, as well as suppression of a corpse. The order was issued by the Judge for preliminary investigations at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Tribunal of Bari — District Anti-Mafia Directorate.
The case concerns the disappearance of a 41-year-old man that occurred on 27 August 2021 in Canosa di Puglia. The victim, who had numerous criminal records, went missing in the afternoon. The investigation coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office was conducted by a task force comprising personnel from the Mobile Squads of Bari and the province (BAT), from the Investigative Section of the Central Operational Service (S.I.S.C.O.) of Bari and from the Police Station in Canosa.
According to the reconstruction by investigators, the two suspects — a 45-year-old and a 38-year-old from Canosa, both tied to local organised crime and with criminal records — lured the victim into a trap. They arranged a meeting to discuss certain matters, then drove him away in a car and killed him with a gunshot, causing the body to disappear.
The investigations made use of wiretaps, analysis of telephone traffic and review of numerous surveillance footage recordings obtained immediately after the events. This documentation made it possible to reconstruct the dynamics of the criminal act and to identify the presumed perpetrators.
The investigators established that the murder was carefully devised and meticulously organised. The mafia method was recognised not only on the basis of the criminal profile of the suspects, but also the local criminal context characterised by the pervasive presence of mafia organisations. The intimidatory significance of the crime was considered a warning to the community. One of the two suspects was already detained in prison for another matter; the other was traced by police officers. Both were notified of the precautionary measure and transferred to prison.
