Murder linked to drug trafficking

According to laprovinciaunicatv.it, a 34-year-old man was fatally stabbed last night shortly before 1 a.m. in via 4 Novembre in Imbersago. Investigators believe the incident may be linked to a settling of scores in the context of drug trafficking and would have had the characteristics of an ambush and a punitive expedition.

The victim was staying with some compatriots in an apartment in a residential building on a side street near the historic centre. According to preliminary reconstruction, he would have been lured onto the street by the person or persons who attacked him, perhaps with the prospect of a confrontation. Multiple attackers then left the area.

Carabinieri from the Operational and Radio Unit of Merate and the Investigative Unit of Lecco carried out the investigation and gathered initial witness statements. An abandoned car was also reportedly found in the area. The investigative hypothesis is that the murder may be part of a clash for control of drug-dealing sites in Brianza and the Bergamo area, although at present there are no official confirmations of a connection with other incidents nor the identification of those responsible.

A series of violent incidents in the area

The murder occurs in a context of widespread violence in the area in recent months. On 10 April, in the town centre of Imbersago near the town hall, a 25-year-old foreign youth had been beaten by six young people, some minors, in what was interpreted as a punitive expedition linked to drug trafficking.

At the end of September in Osnago, on via Edison between 11 p.m. and midnight, a brawl between young people ended with a 27-year-old transported to Lecco hospital with a fractured leg. According to carabinieri from the Merate Company, six or seven young people from the Bergamo area would have arranged to meet for reasons linked to drug dealing near a roundabout next to the cemetery. The 27-year-old, surrounded, had fled on a motorbike but would have been caught and beaten. Witnesses reported a machete, a detail not confirmed.

On 15 October in the same area, in Villa d'Adda in the province of Bergamo, carabinieri had seized 157 kilogrammes of drugs, including 40 of cocaine and over 117 of hashish, hidden in fridges and cupboards in a residential property. A 24-year-old foreign national was arrested following reports from residents suspicious of his movements.
