Drugs seized at Perugia prison
According to perugiatoday.it, officers of the prison police in Perugia discovered 70 grammes of heroin hidden in the bodies of three inmates. The three men had been arrested the previous day and taken to Capanne prison, but a change in prison dynamics aroused the officers' suspicion.
Investigators conducted targeted observation activities within the detention sections, gathering sufficient evidence to request further checks. The Public Prosecutor's office authorised specific inspections at Perugia hospital, where the narcotic substance was found concealed inside the bodies of the three men.
The substance was seized and the operation was reported to the competent judicial authorities for further proceedings.
Fabrizio Bonino, national secretary of SAPPE (prison police trade union) for Umbria, praised how the intervention was carried out, highlighting "the professionalism, dedication and sense of duty of the men and women of the Prison Police". Bonino stressed that the result is particularly significant given the difficult operational conditions, including serious overcrowding of detention facilities and staff shortages.
The trade union defined the operation as "a significant result in terms of prison security", the fruit of careful observation and investigative capacity in identifying situations potentially detrimental to order within the institution.
