Apartment theft interrupted, robber arrested
According to questure.poliziadistato.it, officers from the mobile squad arrested a 42-year-old from Misterbianco following a robbery in an apartment in the Barriera district of Catania. The man was detained a few hours after the incident, still in his vehicle, as he was returning home.
The woman who discovered the robber while returning to her sister's apartment found him in the act of stealing silver objects. When questioned about what he was doing, the man confessed to being a thief and said he needed to provide for his children. When the woman attempted to stop him, he fled through a glass door, breaking through the external gate and disappearing in his car.
A neighbour, alerted by the noise, recorded video of the fleeing car on his smartphone. The footage allowed officers from the anti-robbery section to identify the perpetrator, also aided by photographic identification of the victim. In the boot of the vehicle they recovered all the stolen items: 150 euros in cash, a silver teapot and various gold jewels with a total value of approximately 6,000 euros. All the loot was returned to the owner.
