Fire at Porto Vecchio, two dead from carbon monoxide poisoning
The public prosecutor's office is investigating manslaughter following the death of a young woman from Friuli and a Moroccan man in an abandoned warehouse on Sunday evening.

Death from intoxication in the Warehouse 18 fire
According to ilpiccolo.it, two young people died on Sunday evening in the fire that broke out in Warehouse 18 in Porto Vecchio. The twenty-one-year-old woman from Friuli Marilisa Covasso and the twenty-three-year-old Moroccan man who was with her are believed to have been intoxicated by carbon monoxide released by the smoke before being engulfed by flames. Their bodies were partially burnt.
The public prosecutor's office has hypothesised the offence of manslaughter. An external examination of the bodies revealed signs of intoxication; the autopsy, already ordered by substitute prosecutor Alessandro Perogio, will need to definitively establish the causes of death and the causal link with the fire.
The fire was started on the ground floor by four young Moroccan men who had gathered in the dilapidated hangar to warm themselves or cook. The fire got out of their control. The four managed to escape, leaving the warehouse which had been evacuated and sealed off by authorities months earlier. The couple, sheltering in a small room on the first floor, had no way out: the killer gas rose up a conduit, in a sort of chimney effect, poisoning the two young people.
The four survivors were identified by police and will be questioned again shortly. Their names could be entered in the register of persons under investigation along with any other legal safeguards.
