Illegal gun and ammunition seized in Bitonto, 38-year-old arrested
The State Police arrested a 38-year-old man in Bitonto with a semi-automatic pistol lacking a serial number and 25 cartridges, found during a house search. The Bari Court confirmed his detention in custody.
Illegal weapon discovered in bedroom
According to questure.poliziadistato.it, on 21 October 2026 the State Police and the Financial Guard arrested a 38-year-old Bitonto resident during joint operations against illegal trafficking of explosive material and illegal weapons in the Bitonto area.
Agents carried out a house search at the man's home, taking advantage of the element of surprise. In the inside pocket of a jacket stored in the bedroom wardrobe they found a 7.65-calibre semi-automatic pistol lacking a serial number and other identifying marks, equipped with a magazine and 25 cartridges of the same parabellum calibre.
The man was arrested in flagrante delicto for illegal possession of a clandestine firearm, possession of unauthorised ammunition and receiving of the weapon itself. He had previous criminal convictions relating to offences against property.
After the formalities, he was taken to Bari prison on the orders of the Deputy Public Prosecutor at the Bari Court. The validation hearing was held on 23 October: the Judge at Bari Court confirmed the arrest and maintained the precautionary measure of detention in custody.
The proceedings are still in the preliminary investigation phase. The evidence gathered and the precautionary measure are provisional in nature, based on a judgment of mere probability. Definitive responsibility will only be established by a final, irrevocable judgment.
