Arrest for drug offence in wooded area between Montagna and Poggiridenti

The Carabinieri of the Sondrio Company have arrested a 26-year-old foreign national in flagrante delicto for possession with intent to distribute. According to laprovinciaunicatv.it, the young man's rucksack contained 63 grammes of cocaine, partly already divided into doses, and 1,590 euros in cash.

The arrest took place on Tuesday morning at a makeshift camp in the wooded area between Montagna in Valtellina and Poggiridenti. The operation was launched following reports from residents who had noticed suspicious comings and goings of people in the area. Officers from the Ponte in Valtellina Station organised a targeted operation to verify the presence of drug dealers.

Upon seeing the Carabinieri, the 26-year-old attempted to flee, abandoning his rucksack, but was immediately apprehended. The drugs and money were seized as being connected to illicit activity. After completing the necessary formalities, the young man—a resident from outside the province—was taken to Sondrio prison pending judgement by the judicial authorities.

The arrest is part of a broader Carabinieri campaign against drug dealing in wooded areas of the province, which has already led to several similar operations.
