Ten Tunisian citizens have been arrested or placed under house arrest for managing an organisation that facilitated illegal entry into Italy from Tunisia.

An investigation by Genoa magistrates has led to the dismantling of a criminal group that managed the passage of people from North Africa to Italian coasts. The operation was conducted this morning, 8 June 2026, under the direction of the Anti-Mafia and Counter-Terrorism District Directorate of the Ligurian capital.
Law enforcement executed restrictive measures against ten individuals, all originally from Tunisia. Six of them were taken into custody, while the other four must comply with a night-time residence requirement at their homes.
The association specialised in helping migrants to enter the country illegally using the maritime route that departs from Tunisian coasts and arrives at Pantelleria. The investigation allowed authorities to reconstruct a structured organisation with branches across the border.
One member of the group is also accused of managing a parallel circuit for the movement of money. Through the "hawala" system, based on trust and devoid of banking records, he allegedly collected, exchanged and sent currency abroad and to Italy, making it impossible to trace the sums.
The investigators will provide further information about the operation in the coming hours.
