A 25-year-old man was sentenced to 18 months in prison after attempting to smuggle 3 kg of liquid cocaine from Martinique. The drug was concealed in a rum container placed in the aircraft hold.

According to rci.fm, customs officers at Martinique's Aimé-Césaire Airport intercepted a 25-year-old passenger on 31 May whose checked suitcase contained a rum container concealing more than 3 kilogrammes of liquid cocaine.
The man, previously unknown to the justice system, was taken into custody. He admitted to the facts while downplaying them.
Tried in immediate appearance proceedings on Friday 5 June, he was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment. He is being held in custody at Ducos penitentiary centre and must also pay a customs fine of €10,000.
The merchandise was intended to be transported to mainland France.
