The gendarmerie company of Marin dismantled two separate drug trafficking operations in Martinique, according to la1ere.franceinfo.fr. The operations targeted homes in Rivière-Salée and Sainte-Luce, resulting in several detentions in custody and a conviction.
Rivière-Salée: 579 cannabis plants at a father and son's home
After a month of surveillance, gendarmes from Rivière-Salée intervened on Tuesday 27 May at the home of a resident suspected of cultivating cannabis. Investigators had been alerted by characteristic odours near the property, as well as by the repeated comings and goings of consumers.
The search uncovered plants cultivated outdoors and in two specially equipped rooms for this purpose. The total amount seized came to 579 cannabis plants, over 2.2 kg of dried herb, 380 grammes of buds, 22 seeds, 34 grammes of pollen, 31 sachets ready for sale and 500 euros in cash.
The owner and his son were placed in custody. Following interviews, the son was released; he will be subject to proceedings for drug use under a penal order for misdemeanours. The father, prosecuted for acquisition, transfer and transport of drug products, was brought before the judicial court of Fort-de-France under a procedure of prior admission of guilt.
Sainte-Luce: resin, herb and 37 cartridges of contraband cigarettes
The second case began following a report filed with the gendarmerie's digital unit. Investigations led officers to the home of a Sainte-Luce resident, where a search resulted in the seizure of 1.151 kg of cannabis resin, 615 grammes of herb, 4,005 euros in cash, cultivation equipment, and 37 cartridges of contraband cigarettes.
Placed in custody, the individual admitted to engaging in the resale of drugs and contraband tobacco. Brought before the judicial court of Fort-de-France the following Friday, he was sentenced to eight months in prison with a suspended sentence, combined with six months under electronic monitoring.
