A former civil servant of the Martinique territorial authority and her ex-partner have finally served their sentences behind bars, after benefiting from a deferral of incarceration.

Ducos prison has just registered the arrival of two new inmates. A week after the close of their hearing, Clarisse Romany and Fabrice Duragrin were transferred to custodial care, ending the suspended execution of sentence that had been granted to them.
Romany, who previously worked at the Martinique Territorial Authority, was incarcerated on Thursday 18 June. Fifteen days earlier, the Fort-de-France court had imposed a sentence of four years, divided between two years of actual imprisonment and two years on probation. The judge had then agreed to defer her placement in custody.
She is held responsible for establishing a fraudulent system that caused a loss of €3.2 million to the territorial authority. The embezzled sums came from the budgetary allocation for the Disability Compensation Benefit. In addition to the custodial sentence, she was fined, made ineligible to stand for election, permanently barred from public administration, and ordered to make financial restitution for the losses suffered.
Duragrin, with whom she previously had a romantic relationship, received an identical four-year sentence, but with a different distribution: thirty months on probation and eighteen months custodial. He too was directed to Ducos prison during the previous week.
The four other defendants who appeared alongside the couple were also found guilty and sanctioned by the magistrates.
Furthermore, this judicial case saw other parties resolve their situation through alternative routes. Six individuals accepted a penal settlement in February, and four admitted their guilt through a guilty plea procedure. Sanctions in these cases varied between ten months of home detention and twenty-four months of imprisonment, half of which was suspended.
A single person remains yet to be tried. This accused, prevented from attending the hearing on 18 May due to health reasons, must appear before the court in January 2027.
