Fort-de-France: fugitive sought for attempted homicide abandons weapon during flight

On Friday 23 January, law enforcement officers carried out a check in the Martinique capital. The rider of a scooter, without a protective helmet, immediately sought to escape the operation. After abandoning his vehicle, he continued his flight on foot.

During his escape, the suspect drew a handgun concealed in his lower garment and threw it onto the asphalt, creating a serious risk for civilians in the vicinity.

Officers nevertheless managed to overpower him. On the pavement, they recovered a Glock 19 pistol whose identification markings had been scratched off. The magazine contained fifteen nine-millimetre rounds.

The individual had already been under investigation for several months in proceedings concerning an attempted crime against a person. Furthermore, he did not possess valid driving documents.

Remanded in custody, he will appear before the Fort-de-France court in the coming weeks.
