On Wednesday 19 November, around 20:00 (local time), a live fire attack resulted in one death and one serious injury in Lamentin, in central Martinique. A man was shot dead and a five-year-old boy was struck by a bullet to the head while they were inside the same vehicle, according to La Montagne.
According to a police source contacted by the AFP, the incident occurred shortly before midnight GMT. The young passenger, seated in the rear of the vehicle, was struck in the skull. Emergency services on the island confirmed his admission to the emergency department of the local university hospital, with his condition deemed extremely critical.
At the scene, investigators counted around twenty 9-millimetre shell casings scattered around the bodywork, which was perforated by projectiles. A prosecutor's magistrate attended the scene to establish the facts. The case is now being followed by the territorial judicial police.
This latest homicide brings the tally of murders on the island to 33 since January 2025, already surpassing the 29 violent deaths for the entire previous year. Among these deaths, 29 were caused by firearms.
