Proceedings before the Martinique assize court resumed for the second part of Lionel Griffit's appeal trial. In the first instance in September 2024, this man had been sentenced to twenty-eight years' imprisonment for shooting Camille Pierre in the head, on 9 November 2020, in the locality of Cap Macré.
The opening hearing, held on Friday, had made it possible to outline an individual marked by a troubled youth, a past head injury, various dependencies and troubled romantic history. At the time, the man in question had sworn that he would hide nothing. Yet when proceedings resumed on Monday, the judges quickly measured the gap between this assurance and the substance of his statements.
Gendarmerie investigators, in the capacity of judicial police officers, were the first to hear his version of events. This proved to be in flagrant contradiction with what he had previously stated, prompting surprise among the court members.
