A 24-year-old woman from Guadeloupe was tried in immediate appearance on 20 October 2025 at the judicial tribunal in Fort-de-France. She received a sentence of 30 months in custody for attempted drug trafficking.
The facts date back to the day before the hearing. The suspect was preparing to board an aeroplane bound for the French capital when border police at Aimé-Césaire airport conducted a check. The examination revealed that she was hiding cocaine on her person, concealed notably in her clothing.
At the hearing, the defendant explained that she had acted under duress, claiming to have been threatened by individuals who had forced her to transport the drug. This defence argument did not convince the tribunal, which issued a definite sentence.
The young woman, who had no fixed address in Martinique, was remanded in custody at the end of the session. The case highlights the drug trafficking routes that use air routes between the overseas departments and mainland France.
