A man is seriously injured after police opened fire on him in a flat on Lindeberg in Oslo on Saturday morning, reports Google News NO — Oslo.
Police responded to the area shortly after 10 o'clock after receiving multiple reports of a man threatening a woman in the flat. When the first patrol arrived, the situation escalated rapidly.
"After a short time, a threatening situation arose which meant that police were forced to open fire on the perpetrator. He has been hit and is now being cared for by the health service and has been taken to hospital," incident commander Nicolai Julsrud Backe-Henden told Avisa Oslo.
Around 11 o'clock, police confirmed that the man had been shot. He was conscious when he was taken to hospital. In a press release at 14.40, police stated that he is seriously injured, but that his condition is stable.
Police also have control of a woman and a third person who were in the flat. Neither of these, nor any of the police officers at the scene, are physically injured.
"There is a large police presence in the area, and there will continue to be throughout the day. However, there is no danger to others in the area," said operations commander Rune Hekkelstrand in Oslo police district.
The case has been referred to the Special Unit for Police Cases, which is now beginning an investigation. Police have not yet provided details about those involved, and no defence counsel has been appointed in the case.
