Trøndelag police officer charged with sexualised images of teenager and 60 register searches
A police officer in Trøndelag is charged with misusing police registers and storing sexualised images of a minor girl. The case will be heard in court in November.
Police officer in Trøndelag risks losing job after charges of abuse against minor
A public servant in Trøndelag police district is charged with having abused his position in contact with a teenage girl, according to NRK Norge. According to the indictment from the Special Unit for Police Affairs, he carried out over 60 searches on the girl and people around her in police registers, in the period from May 2023 to February 2025.
– This is a very serious charge, says Hanne Garberg, senior legal adviser at the Special Unit for Police Affairs. She states that section 173 of the Criminal Code concerning misuse of public authority is only applied in the most serious cases.
– Here we have an experienced police officer who comes into contact with a minor and vulnerable girl during duty, before he seeks her out privately, says Garberg.
The Special Unit initiated the investigation after receiving a report from Trøndelag police district and child protective services. According to Garberg, child protective services made contact after reacting to the police officer's conduct towards the girl.
Sexualised images stored with pornographic material
The indictment encompasses several serious offences. The police officer is alleged to have produced and stored sexualised images of the teenage girl over a period of two years. Among other things, he is said to have taken still images from a dance video she posted on social media, focusing on the chest and hip area. The images are said to have been stored together with pornographic content from the platform OnlyFans.
Additionally, he is charged with having sent the girl messages via social media, despite being issued a contact ban against her in April last year.
Partial admission from defendant
According to defence lawyer Erlend Hjulstad Nilsen, the police officer has admitted to the register searches and parts of the indictment, but disputes that the images were of a sexualised nature.
– There is a partial admission of the searches and the contact ban, says Hjulstad Nilsen to Adresseavisen. He further states that his client does not wish to comment on the relationship with the girl or on the other charges before court.
May lose police job
The Special Unit will submit a request in court that the police officer be barred from the right to work as a police officer. The case is to be heard at Trøndelag district court during the period 2 to 6 November.
The girl who is the victim has been notified of the charges. NRK has been in contact with her legal representative, Arve Røli, but has not yet received any comment from him.
