Arrests in operation against fake fan crime

As reported by dolnoslaska.policja.gov.pl, the Department for Combating Fake Fan Crime at the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław conducted a series of operations over the past week targeting fan communities involved in criminal activity. Arrests, searches and seizures of goods revealed the scale of gang activity linked to Wrocław and Lubin football clubs.

The first arrest concerned a 26-year-old from Wrocław. Officers searched his car and flat, finding cocaine and 17,000 złoty — money suspected of coming from drug trafficking. The man, connected to Wrocław fake fan circles, was placed in police custody. The court will decide his fate.

The second operation was a dynamic chase on motorway A4. A 34-year-old resident of Lubin, linked to fake fan environments of the Lubin club, failed to stop for a traffic control and fled for several kilometres. After ending up in a ditch, he was detained by officers. In the car they found approximately 2,500 portions of marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy tablets, a machete, electronic scales and several mobile phones. The court ordered his temporary detention for 3 months.

Pyrotechnic materials before the match

Just before a Sunday match in Świdnica, officers seized an arsenal of pyrotechnic materials — flares, illumination charges and firecrackers — and approximately a dozen complete sets of fan clothing bearing club colours. These clothes were believed to have been stolen and were intended to be burned during the match. The seizure also related to antagonistically-oriented groups of fake fans linked to the Świdnica team.

Operations conducted by Lower Silesian police aim not only at breaking up individual cases but also at reducing access to illegal substances, which pose a threat to public health. Possession of substantial quantities of drugs carries a sentence of up to 10 years' imprisonment.
