Police halt DMT ritual in Kielce County; seven litres of brew seized

Halted ceremony with psychotropic brew

According to kielce.tvp.pl, investigators established that a ceremonial gathering was to take place at a property in Kielce County, during which participants were to consume a brew containing DMT. When police officers entered the grounds, they found a group of people preparing for the ritual and a couple organising the meeting.

During a search, officers discovered more than seven litres of a prepared beverage containing the psychotropic substance DMT. The ritual was to take place in a specially prepared space. DMT, or dimethyltryptamine, is listed among psychotropic substances in Group I-P, which also includes LSD and MDMA.

Planned ayahuasca ritual

According to police, the brew was to be used during a so-called ayahuasca ritual. A space had been set aside in the premises where participants, under the supervision of a facilitator, were to experience psychoactive effects after consuming the substance. Police point out that DMT consumption can cause changes in consciousness and physical reactions, including vomiting, raised blood pressure, and an accelerated heart rate.

Detentions and charges laid

A 65-year-old man and his 58-year-old wife were detained in connection with the incident. Daniel Prokopowicz, spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Kielce, informed that the prosecutor charged them with possessing, contrary to the provisions of the law, a significant quantity of a psychotropic substance in the form of DMT and substitute agents with psychoactive effects.

Both admitted to the charges against them. The prosecutor applied police supervision, a financial bond, and a ban on leaving the country. The charge carries a penalty of up to ten years' imprisonment.
