The National Prosecutor's Office has brought charges against three people from the CBA in connection with the illegal use of Pegasus spyware to surveil a lawyer. The office chief, Tomasz Strzelczyk, has dismissed the active-duty officer.

Further individuals connected with the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau have been charged in an investigation concerning the illegal use of the Pegasus surveillance system. Among them was an employee who, until charges were brought against her, was actively serving in the agency.
On Friday, National Prosecutor's Office spokesman Przemysław Nowak announced that three suspects would face charges of exceeding authority, submitting false testimony and obtaining false statements.
The list of accused includes: Jarosław W. – former head of the CBA's Warsaw branch, Katarzyna S. – former head of the operational and investigative department of that unit, and Angela P. – a specialist from the same department. The latter was employed by the agency until recently.
CBA Director Tomasz Strzelczyk commented on the matter in a statement published on Sunday. He stressed that adherence to the rule of law is a priority. He declared full cooperation with law enforcement agencies and announced the swift termination of the contract with the suspect employee.
According to investigators, the accused initiated an operational surveillance measure against a lawyer without possessing the required factual and legal grounds. Electronic correspondence, text messages, multimedia content and data from communication applications were extracted from the injured party's mobile device, constituting a violation of legal professional privilege.
Furthermore, they are accused of providing false data in documents requesting approval for surveillance and in official reports. This allegedly resulted in misleading the deputy prosecutor general and Warsaw judges issuing decisions in the case.
A second indictment concerns carrying out an additional operational surveillance measure against another person using materials obtained earlier in an unauthorised manner.
All three accused denied committing the alleged acts and refused to provide explanations. Angela P. was ordered to be placed under police supervision.
