On Friday in the area of Warsaw's Gdańsk Station, an unknown perpetrator attacked a taxi driver with a metal object, which turned out to be a telescopic baton. The victim was an Azerbaijani citizen. After the incident, the assailant left the scene.
Fortunately, the vehicle contained a passenger who witnessed the entire incident and helped officers in establishing the attacker's details. Officers from the city-centre police station quickly identified the wanted man.
On Sunday, the 36-year-old, who is a Polish citizen and resident of the capital, appeared at a police unit accompanied by his lawyer. He was detained. Investigators have charged him with causing moderate bodily harm and abuse motivated by the victim's national origin.
Activities involving the suspect are continuing. The proceedings are overseen by the District Prosecutor's Office Warsaw Żoliborz. If found guilty, the man faces a sentence of up to 5 years imprisonment.
