The Criminal Division of the District Court in Słupsk has decided to order Piotr K. (44) for a month-long psychiatric evaluation. The man, who previously worked for the State Protection Service, is accused of killing his own four-year-old daughter and attempting to kill his wife, underage son and his in-laws.
The tragedy occurred on 26 January of this year in Ustka. The family was there on a winter holiday at the woman's parents' home. In the evening, after a game of cards together, the accused grabbed a knife and attacked everyone present in the flat. He stabbed the girl fourteen times in the chest area. The child died despite several minutes of resuscitation attempts. The other victims – his wife, in-laws and son – with numerous stab and laceration wounds were taken to hospitals. They managed to leave the flat despite their injuries.
Laboratory tests showed that the man was sober at the time of the incident. No drugs or other psychoactive substances were found in his system.
The suspect was charged with murder and four counts of attempted murder. During questioning, Piotr K. admitted to committing the alleged acts but did not explain the circumstances of the incident.
Two forensic psychiatrists who examined him in an outpatient setting determined that they could not unambiguously assess his mental capacity at the time of committing the acts. In light of this, the prosecutor applied to the court to send the accused for evaluation in a closed facility.
Piotr K. had no prior criminal convictions. In April, the court extended his remand in custody until 25 July 2026. The criminal code provides a sentence of life imprisonment for murder.
