Court extends custody for suspect

The Regional Court in Słupsk extended on Friday the remand custody of Piotr K., a former officer of the State Protection Office. The custody will remain in force until 21 January 2027. According to wiadomosci.wp.pl, the suspect faces charges of murder and four counts of attempted murder.

Knife attack on family in Ustka

The incident occurred on 26 January 2026 in Ustka, where Piotr K. was spending the winter break with his wife and children in his parents-in-law's flat. Around 21:30, after finishing a card game, he attacked family members with a knife. He inflicted 14 wounds on his four-year-old daughter in the chest area. The girl died despite resuscitation efforts lasting several dozen minutes.

The suspect's wife, his son and his parents-in-law were taken to hospitals with cut and stab wounds. Before emergency services arrived, they managed to leave the flat. Tests showed that Piotr K. was sober and was not under the influence of drugs or other psychoactive substances.

Psychiatric observation concluded

In June 2026, the court ordered a four-week psychiatric observation of the suspect, which ended at the end of July. Two psychiatrists had previously conducted a single outpatient examination but concluded that on this basis they could not conclusively determine whether the suspect was of sound mind at the time of committing the alleged acts.

The prosecution is awaiting an expert opinion, which was supposed to be prepared by the end of October. During interrogation, Piotr K. admitted to the alleged acts against him but did not describe the course of events. He had not previously been convicted by a court.

Murder carries a sentence of up to life imprisonment.
