Asset seizure in the Zondacrypto case
Police have secured 11 vehicles with a combined value of approximately 4 million Polish zlotys in an investigation into the Zondacrypto cryptocurrency exchange, according to the National Prosecutor's Office. The vehicles belonged to one of the suspects in the case, who was previously remanded in custody for three months.
Officers from Katowice secured the cars on Friday on the orders of the prosecutor conducting the investigation within a special team dealing with Zondacrypto. The value of the vehicles was estimated at approximately 4 million zlotys.
According to information from the Dziennik Gazety Prawnej, a meeting took place on Wednesday between the Prosecutor General and prosecutors from the special team handling the case with the bankruptcy administrator of the BB Trade Estonia exchange operator and representatives of creditors. The talks concerned possibilities for cooperation in identifying and securing assets intended for victims of the exchange.
To date, assets worth approximately 125 million zlotys have been secured in the proceedings. However, not all assets will be able to be allocated to cover claims by exchange clients — some relate to other aspects of the investigation and do not stem from profits obtained at the expense of exchange users.
The Prosecutor's Office points out that criminal proceedings and bankruptcy proceedings are separate procedures. Investigators are establishing whether crimes were committed in connection with the exchange's operations, whilst the bankruptcy administrator gathers assets from the bankruptcy estate for creditors.
The investigation into Zondacrypto was initiated on 17 April 2026 by the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Katowice. The proceedings concern suspicion of fraud of significant value and money laundering. Several thousand reports of suspected criminal offences have been received.
In August 2026, the investigation was combined with proceedings concerning the disappearance of Sylwester Suszek, founder of the exchange, who has been missing since March 2022. As part of the proceedings, several suspects were detained and remanded in custody.
