During a security check at Chopin Airport, customs officers discovered a large consignment of drugs. Inside one of the pieces of luggage, 22 packages of white powder were found, which turned out to be cocaine with a total mass of 25 kilogrammes.
The entire incident began with a report of a missing suitcase by a woman arriving from Frankfurt. When checking abandoned bags, officers noticed one of them – it had a luggage tag with the passenger's details. However, she stated that she was not its owner. She emphasised that she had travelled only with a suitcase, not with a bag. This suggests that there may have been a luggage mix-up at an earlier point in the journey.
Customs service employees inspected the suspicious bag using equipment designed to detect narcotics. Inside were twenty-two packages. Laboratory tests confirmed that the contents were cocaine. The black market value of the seized goods is estimated at 5.2 million zlotys.
For introducing significant quantities of narcotic substances into the country, the law provides severe consequences – from three to twenty years' imprisonment and a financial penalty. The investigation into the matter is being conducted by the Mazovian Customs and Tax Office in the capital.
