The public prosecutor has brought additional charges against priest Miroslav M., who allegedly murdered a 68-year-old homeless man in Tarczyn. The man had previously attempted to kill the victim, but was thwarted by a passing tractor.

Investigators have brought new charges against Miroslav M., a priest from the parish in Tarczyn, located approximately 40 kilometres south of Warsaw. The clergyman has been held in police custody since July of last year in connection with the brutal killing of a 68-year-old homeless man.
According to evidence gathered by the public prosecutor, the man had previously made a failed attempt on the victim's life. This attempt ended unsuccessfully because a tractor appeared near the planned location of the crime.
The subsequent killing was the result of a conflict concerning accommodation. The homeless man, Anatol Cz., transferred a property to the priest in exchange for being provided with a roof over his head. When a misunderstanding occurred in this matter, the two men argued in a car, according to Lithuanian portal 15min.lt, citing TVP World.
Investigation findings show that the priest struck the victim in the head with an axe, doused him with flammable liquid and set him alight whilst still alive. The injured man suffered burns covering 80 per cent of his body surface as well as head injuries caused by a blunt instrument.
Although the clergyman admitted to committing the act, the public prosecutor decided to expand the charges to include attempted murder in connection with the earlier, failed attempt.
Psychiatric examinations carried out did not indicate that the accused suffered from mental disorders that would exclude his criminal responsibility. However, authorities did not officially confirm this information.
Warsaw metropolitan Adrian Galbas expressed sadness over the killing, mentioned the moral responsibility of the Catholic Church, and apologised for the "terrible act".
