Customs officers at Chopin Airport discovered a shipment from Thailand containing over 47 kg of marijuana worth more than 2.3 million zloty. The drugs were hidden in tins with fruit contents.

Customs officials from Warsaw's Chopin Airport intercepted a large consignment of drugs originating from Thailand. In a total of 180 tins declared as mandarin pulp, there were over 47 kilograms of marijuana with a market value exceeding 2.3 million zloty.
During the inspection of the shipment, customs officers decided to check the contents of several randomly selected packages. Inside each of them they found packets of plant material hidden in the fruit pulp. The distinctive, intense smell allowed them to preliminarily identify the substance as marijuana. Laboratory analysis carried out at the Central Customs-Tax Laboratory in Otwock confirmed these suspicions. The remaining tins also proved to contain the same illegal goods.
For smuggling such a significant quantity of narcotics, the criminal code provides severe sanctions – from 3 to 20 years' imprisonment. The investigation is being conducted by the Investigation Department of the Mazovian Customs and Tax Office, and oversight of the case is provided by the District Prosecutor's Office Warsaw-Ochota.
