On Saturday morning in the vicinity of Gdańsk Station in Warsaw, a brutal attack on a taxi driver took place. A man of Azerbaijani nationality was beaten by an unknown perpetrator who used a telescopic baton.
The entire incident was witnessed by a woman who was a passenger in another vehicle. According to her account, the aggressor first ran up to the vehicle and kicked the car body, then began to insult the driver. A moment later, he pulled a metal baton from the boot and delivered several blows to the victim's head and arm.
The witness called emergency services by dialling 112. Police officers and a medical team arrived at the scene. Paramedics treated the injured taxi driver and took him to a medical facility. The man remained conscious.
Officers from the Warsaw district police headquarters confirmed the intervention. As informed by the press officer, second lieutenant Jakub Pacyniak, the police officers carried out an inspection of the scene, questioned the person who reported the incident and the injured Azerbaijani citizen, who has been legally residing and working in our country for four years.
The perpetrator hid the tool in the boot after the attack and drove away in his own car. Officers have secured evidence and are conducting activities to identify the assailant. So far, no formal complaint has been filed with the prosecutor's office, but investigators are continuing work on this case.
