Criminals have launched another wave of phishing attacks, this time impersonating the official public administration platform. In sent SMS messages, they falsely inform recipients of the need to pay an alleged fine. They threaten additional charges, legal proceedings, or vehicle towing to put pressure on recipients.
The message contains a link to a page that visually imitates the government website. Upon opening it, the internet user is asked to provide the vehicle registration number, and then payment details along with card information. The criminals' aim is to steal confidential information and obtain funds.
– Providing these details can lead to emptying a bank account, unauthorised transfers, or further use of the data in subsequent crimes. Criminals artificially speed up the victim's decision by frightening them with legal and financial consequences – explains Karolina Kmak, a cybersecurity specialist.
It is recommended to: not open links from unknown senders, not enter data on uncertain websites, not contact the sender of suspicious messages. If someone has fallen victim, they should immediately notify their bank, block their card, reset limits, and verify their transaction history.
