A 65-year-old Polish citizen, an employee of one of the facilities of the Polish Defence Group, has been detained on suspicion of espionage on behalf of a foreign state. The District Court in Poznań decided to place him in pre-trial custody.

Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, the defence minister, announced on 27 May the detention of a man employed at one of the factories that make up the Polish Defence Group. The 65-year-old is suspected of intelligence activities on behalf of another country.
The detention was carried out on the basis of a decision by the Poznań district court, which authorised a three-month period of solitary confinement for the suspect. The charges were based on criminal provisions concerning treason in the form of espionage.
Evidence in this case was gathered by the Military Counterintelligence Service with the support of the Internal Security Agency – according to Interia.pl.
Tomasz Siemoniak, coordinator of special services, praised the effectiveness of the services. He noted that this is another person connected with a foreign great power's intelligence agency who has been taken into custody in recent times.
The defence minister thanked all institutions involved in the operation. He pointed out that these actions are part of a broader strategy to protect the Polish defence sector, implemented under the SAFE programme.
Earlier, in May, the Internal Security Agency carried out a similar detention. Three Poles were charged with offences related to financing the purchase of military equipment for the Russian army and spreading propaganda supporting the invasion of Ukraine. In their case too, the court ordered three-month remand in custody.
