Warsaw court revived defamation case against PiS chairman
Jarosław Kaczyński will again be tried for comments about "repugnant crimes" by Civic Coalition MEP Krzysztof Brejza. The Regional Court found that the statement could have been understood as an accusation of committing a prohibited act.
Warsaw court revived defamation case against PiS chairman
The Regional Court in Warsaw overturned a first instance decision to dismiss proceedings in a defamation case against Civic Coalition MEP Krzysztof Brejza by Jarosław Kaczyński. The matter returns for reconsideration.
In 2021, the chairman of Law and Justice accused Brejza of committing "repugnant crimes". Brejza filed a private indictment for defamation. The first instance court dismissed the proceedings, arguing that the statement was of a political nature.
However, the Regional Court sided with the accuser and found that the words could have been understood as a suggestion of committing a crime. The case will be reviewed anew.
