Gdańsk detectives detained a 23-year-old man who attempted to extort money from a 73-year-old woman using the "police impersonation" method. The incident occurred in Gdańsk.

On Thursday, 4 June in Gdańsk, officers from the Department for Combating Economic Crime detained a 23-year-old. The man attempted to extort money from a 73-year-old resident of the city.
The perpetrator called the senior citizen and, posing as a police officer, conveyed false information about the alleged arrest of a thief who was supposed to steal her savings. To secure the money, he asked her to hand over cash.
The woman noticed that something was wrong and called the emergency number 112. Officers quickly arrived at the scene and detained the fraudster in the act.
The 23-year-old was charged with attempted fraud. He faces up to 8 years in prison.
