Warsaw lawyer Maciej Z. has been detained by police in connection with charges relating to false reports of planned attacks and impersonating public figures. Officers found artillery shells, weapons and ammunition at the suspect's residence.
The investigation conducted by the prosecutor's office concerns a series of offences. According to press information, the detained man allegedly made false alarms about planned attacks on President Karol Nawrocki and the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski. The suspect also allegedly impersonated a former deputy minister.
The arrest attracted wide media attention. In the days following the detention, thousands of press and online publications concerning the case appeared. Due to similarities in personal data, a mistake occurred – another Warsaw lawyer, Maciej Zaborowski, was incorrectly identified as the suspect. The error was clarified only after several days.
The case has generated interest due to the professional status of the suspect and the seriousness of the charges against him. The false alarms concerned the highest-ranking figures in the state, which elevated the significance of the entire matter. The prosecutor's office has not yet disclosed details of the investigation.
