Daniel N. has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for the murder of his own father. The ruling by the District Court in Ostrołęka of 9 June is not final – the parties may lodge an appeal to the Court of Appeal in Białystok.
The incident occurred on 23 January 2024 in premises on ul. 3 Maja in Ostrów Mazowiecka. Officers who arrived at the scene found a 32-year-old man in a state of severe alcohol intoxication – testing showed 2.6 per mille. Lying on the floor next to him was a 63-year-old man showing no signs of life. Medical rescue workers pronounced him dead.
Evidence gathered indicates that the perpetrator inflicted blows to the victim's head and face using an object with blunt and sharp edges. The result was extensive facial and cranial injuries with profuse bleeding and aspiration of blood. Furthermore, Daniel N. pressed his hands against his father's chest and abdomen, causing fractured ribs, a ruptured liver and extensive internal bleeding.
According to press information, the murder weapon may have been audio equipment.
The 63-year-old died as a result of haemorrhagic shock. The prosecutor classified the act as murder under Article 148 § 1 of the Criminal Code.
The judge took into account the time the defendant had already spent in custody and in a correctional facility – from January to October 2024 and from November 2024 to June 2026.
Furthermore, the court ordered Daniel N. to undergo treatment for alcohol addiction. The verdict will also be posted on the public notice board in Ostrów Mazowiecka for a quarter. The convicted person bears the costs of the proceedings.
