In eastern Poland, the murder of a 44-year-old man of Russian origin has taken place. The victim was an artist known for criticising the authorities in Moscow. The incident occurred on a street in Biała Podlaska, a city located approximately 35 kilometres from the border with Belarus.
According to a spokesman for the police of Lublin Voivodeship who spoke to the Polish news agency PAP, several shots were fired at the man. In the officer's view, the manner in which the attack was carried out suggests it was a premeditated murder. The perpetrator's motive remains unknown. So far he has not been apprehended.
Polish authorities have not disclosed the victim's identity. Independent Russian and Belarusian opposition media identified the deceased as Semyon Skrepetsky, an activist and satirical cartoonist. His works ridiculing Vladimir Putin, Alexander Lukashenko and Joseph Stalin brought him recognition. Since 2021 he had been living in exile in Poland.
