Murder of taxi driver at car park near Czersk. Suspect arrested in Gdańsk
On Saturday at around 14:00, officers arrested Mateusz G. in Gdańsk – a person whom police from Chojnice had been seeking in connection with the death of a 74-year-old taxi driver from Czersk. The driver's body was discovered overnight from Friday to Saturday at a car park in a forest in the village of Młynki, by national road number 22.
The body of the elderly man bore marks suggesting the involvement of third parties. Unofficially, it is said that the victim had a cut wound around the neck area. An abandoned Mercedes taxi was parked near the body.
From the moment the body was discovered, Chojnice police conducted extensive operational activities. Earlier, a warning was issued to residents, in which they were urged to exercise caution in case of contact with the wanted person. They were advised to notify the emergency services on 112 or 477436222, rather than attempt to apprehend the suspect themselves.
According to investigators, the detained man may have possessed information material to the case. Following his arrest in Gdańsk, questioning and other procedural actions began.
The District Prosecutor's Office in Chojnice is investigating the murder hypothesis. Officers conducted an inspection of the scene and secured physical evidence. All emergency services took part in the operation.
"Officers, under the supervision of the prosecutor, conducted a review of the scene and secured traces. Activities are underway to clarify the circumstances," said press officer Senior Sergeant Magdalena Zblewska.
Details of the investigation are not being disclosed for now. Proceedings in the case of the man's death in Młynki are ongoing.
