Murder case covered up in Ialomița reopened by PCAB: over 20 people detained after 7 years
Over 20 people were detained on Wednesday from Broșteni village, Ialomița county, in a 2019 murder case taken over by Bucharest prosecutors.

Investigation restarted from scratch after seven years of inaction in Ialomița
Over 20 people were detained Wednesday morning from Broșteni village, Ialomița county, by police officers, prosecutors from the Bucharest Court of Appeal Public Prosecutor's Office (PCAB) and officers from the Special Brigade, according to Gândul. The suspects were transported to the Bucharest Police headquarters as part of an investigation into a murder committed in spring 2019.
The violent conflict broke out on 11 May 2019, between two Roma families from Broșteni. During the altercation, one of the participants got behind the wheel and intentionally hit two members of the rival family with his car.
The victims' relatives intervened to settle accounts with the driver, and one of them attempted to stab him. The man wrenched the knife from the attacker's hand and killed him. Medics from the Ialomița County Ambulance Service arrived at the scene, but were unable to provide effective medical intervention.
The initial investigation was taken over by prosecutors from the Prosecutor's Office attached to Ialomița Court, who questioned several people without ordering any detention. According to judicial sources cited by Gândul, the Ialomița prosecutors would have considered the hypothesis of self-defence rather than murder.
Approximately seven months ago, PCAB prosecutors took over the file from Ialomița and assigned officers from the Homicides Service within Bucharest Police to restart the investigation from scratch, according to sources within the investigation team, speaking exclusively to Gândul.
Wednesday, mixed teams descended on several addresses in Broșteni. Most of the over 20 people detained are accused of perjury. Sources cited specify that the investigation is still in its early stages.
