A 26-year-old man has been remanded in custody and placed in preventive detention after allegedly recruiting a 14-year-old girl using the "Loverboy" method and sexually exploiting her in Oradea.

Suspect remanded by DIICOT following exploitation of a minor using the "Loverboy" method in Oradea
A 26-year-old man is in preventive detention for 30 days, after prosecutors from DIICOT – Oradea Territorial Service remanded him on Monday, 20 October, according to adevarul.ro. He is being investigated for rape of a minor in continuing form and two human trafficking offences involving minors, classified separately under the law.
The case is being handled by officers from the Oradea Organised Crime Combat Brigade together with DIICOT prosecutors. According to information released by Bihor Police, the alleged crimes took place during the period October 2025 – April 2026, and then in July and August 2026.
The investigation indicates that the man allegedly exploited the teenager's vulnerability, including her family situation, causing her to believe that a romantic relationship existed between them — a procedure known as the "Loverboy" method. He subsequently allegedly forced her to engage in sexual intercourse for payment in hotel-rented apartments in Oradea.
The suspect allegedly managed the entire operation: he rented the spaces, published advertisements online, and set prices with potential clients. To conduct discussions with them, he allegedly used the minor's phone, imitating a female voice and presenting himself as her. Money obtained from prostitution allegedly went entirely to him.
Presented to Bihor Court with a proposal for preventive detention, the suspect requested to be investigated under house arrest or judicial supervision. The judge rejected both requests and ordered 30 days of preventive detention. The decision may be contested within 48 hours of notification.
