New case against Călin Georgescu: villa in Mogoșoaia checked for surveillance devices

Two home search warrants were executed on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, by prosecutors from DIICOT and police officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, across the municipality of Bucharest, according to ProTV News. The case concerns offences of illegal operations with information devices or programmes, attempted alteration of computer data, and disruption of the functioning of information systems.

The matter is reported to be connected to the case in which former presidential election candidate Călin Georgescu was placed in preventive detention. According to news.ro, Georgescu was taken from the Central Detention Cell on Wednesday and brought to DIICOT headquarters for questioning.

According to judicial sources cited by ProTV News, Georgescu is reported to have requested a scan of his villa in Mogoșoaia, Ilfov County, to search for electronic audio and video surveillance devices — microphones and cameras — used by judicial authorities. The operation is reported to have been carried out by a suspect aged 35.

According to a DIICOT statement, the scan took place on 26 September 2026, five days after prosecutors had carried out a home search at the same property as part of a criminal case in which technical surveillance measures had also been ordered.

"On 26.09.2026, a suspect aged 35, at the request of another suspect aged 64 (who has the status of defendant in another case handled by DIICOT – Central Structure), proceeded to scan/inspect the latter's property, in Mogoșoaia commune, Ilfov County, with the aim of identifying the technical means of audio-video recording used by judicial authorities, as well as altering computer data or disrupting the functioning of information systems used to implement technical surveillance measures", the agency's statement read.

Prosecutors specified that the objective pursued was not achieved. "The intended result, namely the alteration of computer data and the disruption or damage to the technical means used by judicial authorities, did not occur, for reasons beyond the will of the suspects", the same official document stated.

The technical surveillance means installed by judicial authorities were not, therefore, modified or compromised as a result of the intervention by the two suspects.
