Former police officers from Zlaté Moravce charged: blows, kicks and electric stun gun

Nový Čas reports on a case that has reached the District Court in Nitra: three former police officers from Zlaté Moravce are accused of torturing 25-year-old Lukáš directly at the police station. The incident occurred on 15 December 2022.

At the opening hearing, the accused appeared accompanied by lawyers. Upon arrival at the courthouse building, the accused pulled hoods over their heads to hide their faces from cameras and photographers. They entered the courtroom in silence. Subsequently, they made a statement about the charges before the court.

Escort that turned into a nightmare

According to the description of events, police officer Dominik came for Lukáš. On the basis of an arrest warrant issued by the District Court in Nitra, he escorted him to the station. As soon as they crossed its threshold, Dominik allegedly seated him on a chair and bound his hands behind his back.

Shortly afterwards, police officer Matúš appeared at the department, who according to the charges arrived despite being on leave from work. He was allegedly the first to turn on Lukáš — hitting him in the head, kicking him and jumping on him as he lay on the ground.

Dominik then joined in the action. He allegedly applied an electric stun gun to the young man's side and thigh, which caused painful muscle cramps and uncontrollable tremors throughout his body.

Third man with boxing gloves

According to the description of events, a third police officer also took part in the alleged "interrogation". He allegedly hit him in the head and sides with boxing gloves. Dominik, according to the description of events, merely tolerated his conduct in silence.

The prosecution further states that the police officers allegedly photographed and filmed the entire violence. The creation of photographs and videos from the police station raises questions as to why the men of the law would have made such records at all.

Other possible victims

According to available information, the case may not be limited to Lukáš alone. The trio of former police officers allegedly treated other people in a similar manner.

Charges and threat of ten years

Investigators are pursuing all three for the crime of torture and other inhumane or cruel treatment committed in complicity. Two of the accused additionally face charges for the crime of abuse of authority by a public official, also committed in complicity. If found guilty, they face imprisonment ranging from 4 to 10 years.
