Chittesh Sukhai dies after late-night chopping attack in Friendship Village

A 23-year-old labourer was hacked to death in Friendship Village, Corentyne, Berbice, late Monday night, newsroom.gy reports. The victim has been identified as Chittesh Sukhai, also known as "Rohan" and "Marsho," of the same village.

According to preliminary investigations, the incident began at around 23:40hrs when Sukhai got into an argument with a female relative. Shortly afterwards, several men allegedly arrived at the location armed with cutlasses and chopped Sukhai multiple times about his body. He fled the scene before collapsing in a nearby yard.

Sukhai was rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.

Police recovered two cutlasses in the vicinity, suspected to have been used in the attack. Two men — aged 27 and 23, from Friendship and Limlair Villages, Corentyne, Berbice — have since been arrested in connection with the killing.

Both suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
