A Cuban man was fatally stabbed by a compatriot during an argument at a shipyard in Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, demerarawaves.com reports. The incident occurred at approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday.

The victim, Luis Angel Rodriguez Guillen, 37, was allegedly stabbed in the chest by a 32-year-old fellow Cuban national. Both men were employed at the same shipyard, according to the Guyana Police Force.

Investigators were told that a dispute between the two men escalated into a physical altercation. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a knife and stabbed Rodriguez Guillen in the chest. The victim then collapsed in the hallway of the workers' quarters on the premises.

Other workers at the site restrained the suspect and handed him over to police. A knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered and lodged as evidence.

Rodriguez Guillen was transported to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is to be performed on the body as part of the ongoing investigation.
