Six arrested in south and west Dublin drugs intimidation investigation

Six men have been arrested following a major operation by the Garda Serious Crime Unit, DMR South, into alleged drug-related intimidation, false imprisonment and assault causing harm of a male in early September, dublinpeople.com reports.

On Tuesday 29 September, investigating Gardaí executed search warrants at 11 domestic addresses across south and west Dublin, arresting six males aged in their 20s to 50s. All six are detained at Garda stations in the Dublin Region under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007, on suspicion of offences under Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2006.

The operation drew significant resources. Gardaí from the Serious Crime Unit DMR West, the Dublin Crime Response Team (DCRT), the Emergency Response Unit (ERU), the Armed Support Unit (ASU) attached to Special Tactics and Operations Command (STOC), along with frontline uniform Gardaí and other support units, assisted the DMR South team during the searches.

Electronic devices and other items of evidential value were recovered during the searches and will undergo further technical examination.

An Garda Síochána has appealed to any individual or family subjected to drug-related intimidation to make contact as soon as possible. The force operates a dedicated and confidential Drug Related Intimidation (DRI) Reporting Programme, with nominated Inspectors available nationwide to advise and support those affected.

The DRI programme runs in conjunction with DRIVE — Drug Related Intimidation & Violence Engagement — an interagency project supported by the Department of Health to address drug-related intimidation and associated violence in Ireland.
