Security guard shot dead in drive-by attack at South Seattle nightclub

A 36-year-old man was killed and a 27-year-old woman seriously wounded in a drive-by shooting at a nightclub near Seattle's Georgetown neighbourhood in the early hours of Sunday morning, the Seattle Police Department confirmed. Fox13seattle.com first reported the incident.

Officers responded to calls near the 5800 block of 4th Ave. S at approximately 1 a.m. after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, police found the man dead at the scene. He had been working as a security guard at Kittens Cabaret, the club where the shooting occurred, for roughly two to three months, according to an employee who spoke with FOX 13.

The woman, identified as an employee of the club, sustained a gunshot wound to the knee while sitting in the locker room. She was transported to hospital in serious condition.

Surveillance footage reviewed by police showed a vehicle pulling into the club's parking lot before the driver opened fire multiple times. The vehicle then fled the scene. Less than an hour later, the car was discovered fully engulfed in flames at a nearby location.

A photograph shared with FOX 13 by a club employee shows at least three bullets had penetrated the outer walls of Kittens Cabaret, coming to rest just inches from where dancers had been preparing for their shifts. An employee told FOX 13 that staff were indoors when the rounds tore through the wall.

The employee said it remains unclear why the shooter targeted the security guard.

Seattle police have not released information on any potential suspects or a motive. The SPD said the investigation is ongoing and encouraged anyone with information to contact the agency at (206) 233-5000.
