Jonathan McKinsey, 40, director of engineering for New York Times Games, was shot and killed on Saturday afternoon in the parking lot of the Dublin Sports Grounds in Dublin, California, foxnews.com reports. His parents-in-law were arrested on suspicion of murder within minutes of the incident.

A Dublin Police Services sergeant driving near the sports complex at approximately 3:08 p.m. local time spotted a man lying in the parking lot and stopped to investigate. Dispatchers were simultaneously receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting, authorities said.

Responding officers found McKinsey suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A New York Times spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital that McKinsey had served as the company's director of engineering for its Games division since January 2023.

With assistance from witnesses who had remained at the scene, officers quickly identified and detained two suspects. Police identified them as Shouyong Zhang, 77, and Shili Chen, 77, both of Dublin — McKinsey's parents-in-law. Both were arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

"DPS thanks the witnesses and community members who assisted responding officers; their cooperation was critical to the swift arrest of the suspects," officials said in a statement.

Police said there are no outstanding suspects and no ongoing threat to the public. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting and have not released a possible motive.

Zhang and Chen are scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at 9 a.m. PT at the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin.

Court records obtained by Fox News show McKinsey was involved in several ongoing legal proceedings at the time of his death. These included a child abuse case filed in October 2025, charging him with cruelty to a child by endangering health and corporal injury to a child. A pretrial hearing in that case had been scheduled for 10 September.

Separate court records show McKinsey and his wife, Candice Jang, had each filed domestic violence restraining order requests against the other in 2025. Those records indicate the cases involved custody disputes. McKinsey had also filed for divorce in December 2025, with a status hearing scheduled for 10 October.

Dublin Police Services did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
