Cyprus Police: 19 arrests and 312 traffic violations in one night

Police arrested 19 people for illegal residence, drug offences and driving under the influence of alcohol. A total of 312 drivers were also cited for traffic violations.

Nineteen arrests in one night of operations in Cyprus

Police proceeded with the arrest of 19 persons as part of preventative operations, according to an announcement relayed by Philenews. The offences include illegal residence on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, unlawful possession of drugs and driving under the influence of alcohol.

During the night, 532 vehicles were stopped for inspection and a total of 682 persons were checked. Additionally, 46 inspections of establishments were carried out with the aim of countering criminal activities, from which three citations resulted.

In traffic control checks, 312 citations were recorded for various violations, whilst 21 cases of traffic violations remain under investigation. Of the citations, 109 concerned speeding. As part of the checks, 17 vehicles were impounded.

A total of 87 alcohol breath tests were conducted, resulting in five citations. Furthermore, nine preliminary drug tests were carried out, of which seven produced positive results — leading to an equal number of citations for drug use.

Police announced that preventative and crime suppression operations continue daily, with increased presence, targeted checks and immediate operational action, with the aim of protecting citizens and ensuring public order.
